Climate finance has become one of the most talked-about opportunities of the decade. Global carbon markets are maturing, businesses are under increasing pressure to decarbonise their operations, and investors are searching for high-quality projects that deliver both measurable environmental impact and long-term commercial value.

Yet in Pakistan, one challenge continues to stand in the way.

The country does not lack climate need. It does not lack agricultural land, entrepreneurial farmers or corporate interest in sustainability. What it lacks is a pipeline of projects structured well enough to attract serious private capital.

That is why we built Savak.

Developed by Resources Future, Savak is Pakistan’s first community agroforestry platform designed to transform smallholder farming communities into investment-ready climate assets. It connects productive orchards, carbon project development, digital technology and private investment within a single platform, allowing climate action to become more than a one-off intervention. Instead, it becomes an asset capable of generating long-term environmental, social and financial value.

The idea behind Savak is straightforward. Farmers establish productive fruit orchards on their own land using species suited to local conditions. Those orchards strengthen household incomes through fruit production while simultaneously removing carbon from the atmosphere over time. Every farm is digitally mapped, monitored and documented, creating the transparency needed to develop high-integrity carbon projects that can participate in international carbon markets.

The trees are only the beginning. What ultimately creates value is everything built around them.

Successful climate projects require governance, data, monitoring, community engagement and long-term stewardship. Investors need confidence that projects will continue performing years after the first trees are planted. Carbon buyers increasingly expect rigorous evidence rather than broad sustainability claims. Farmers need clear economic incentives that make maintaining orchards worthwhile long after an initial project has ended.

Savak was designed to bring these pieces together.

The first community is already mobilized in Mirpurkhas, Sindh, where 23 farmers are establishing approximately 536 acres of mango, chikoo, jamun and lemon orchards. These species were carefully selected because they create value on multiple fronts. They improve farm productivity, diversify household incomes and contribute to long-term carbon sequestration, creating the foundations for future climate assets.

Every participating farm becomes part of a digitally connected platform. Land suitability assessments, GIS mapping, climate risk analysis, orchard establishment, farmer engagement and ongoing monitoring are all captured through Savak’s digital infrastructure. Rather than treating each plantation as an isolated activity, the platform creates a growing portfolio of structured community projects that can be replicated across districts and eventually across Pakistan.

This is where Savak differs from conventional plantation programmes.

Many corporate sustainability initiatives have historically been funded through CSR budgets. These programmes have delivered meaningful community benefits, but they are fundamentally designed as expenditures. Budgets are allocated, activities are completed and the funding cycle begins again the following year.

Climate investment offers a different model.

When agroforestry projects are structured to international standards and supported by robust monitoring and verification, they can generate carbon credits that create long-term financial value. Instead of financing a single intervention, private capital can help develop climate assets capable of producing future revenue streams while delivering measurable environmental outcomes.

That creates the possibility of something far more powerful than a one-time plantation campaign.

Capital invested today can help establish orchards, support farming communities and develop high-integrity carbon projects. As those projects mature, future carbon revenues have the potential to create returns for investors while supporting expansion into additional communities. Rather than ending with like one-off CSR activity, the model is designed to create a pipeline that grows over time.

For corporates, this represents an opportunity to move beyond traditional sustainability programmes towards investments that combine commercial logic with measurable climate impact. Sustainability is increasingly becoming part of business strategy rather than corporate philanthropy. Companies are expected not only to reduce emissions within their own operations but also to demonstrate credible action across their value chains. Investing in structured climate projects allows businesses to participate in building Pakistan’s green economy while positioning themselves for an increasingly climate-conscious global market.

Savak simplified the way investors can get involved by offering three defined corporate participation packages: Rs. 2.5 million for Silver, Rs. 5 million for Gold, and Rs. 10 million for Platinum. Each tier gives corporates a clear entry point into Savak’s future carbon credit pipeline, without implying an offset claim today. These are future participation routes, contingent on project development, validation, verification, issuance and applicable market rules.

Savak has been designed with that future in mind.

The platform is built around productive agroforestry that strengthens farmer livelihoods, high-integrity carbon project development aligned with emerging international standards, end-to-end digital monitoring and verification, and long-term investment in community development, including support for girls’ education as the platform expands. These are not parallel objectives. Together, they create the foundations of investable climate infrastructure.

Pakistan has all the ingredients needed to become a leader in nature-based climate solutions. It has the land, the agricultural expertise and the communities capable of restoring landscapes at scale. What it has lacked is the infrastructure that gives investors confidence to participate.

Savak aims to provide that missing link.

We believe the next generation of climate finance in Pakistan will not be built on isolated projects or short-term campaigns. It will be built on transparent systems, long-term partnerships and investment-ready platforms capable of connecting communities with capital.

The first orchards are already in the ground. The digital platform is already recording every stage of the journey. Now we are inviting corporations, financial institutions and private investors to help build what could become Pakistan’s first nationwide pipeline of investment-grade agroforestry projects.

If your organisation is exploring opportunities at the intersection of sustainability, climate finance and long-term value creation, we invite you to discover how Savak is redefining climate investment in Pakistan.
